About Me

Typically when someone clicks the "About Me" section they want to know about the individuals experience, education, and accolades they may have received.  But what about who they are as a person?  In any therapeutic exchange, the relationship is everything.  So, who am I?

My clients know me as Ms. Adriana.  I'm a mother, a wife, and someone who tries to bring as much energy, fun, and realness into the therapeutic process as possible, especially when working with children and teens.  I do not live in their world, nor do I pretend to.  I am also not another adult in their life telling them what to do, who to be, or what's best for them.  That's not my role.  My role is to help individuals of all ages feel better, and help them make healthier and safer decisions for themselves.

So now that you know a bit about me, here is all of the education and experience "stuff"...

I graduated with my BA in Psychology from Adelphi University and received dual Masters Degrees from John Jay College in Psychology and Mental Health Counseling.  I have 10 years experience working with children, pre-teens, teens, their families and adults. I have provided therapy in a variety of settings including foster care agencies, non-profit agencies, traditional outpatient clinics, and to those in the juvenile justice system.  Most recently I have worked as a supervisor in school-based mental health clinics. I've experienced first hand with the students and their families, not only the importance of mental health on academic progress, but the impact that technology and social media has on a students self-esteem, behavior, and their interpersonal relationships.

I utilize play therapy when working with children and pre-teens, as well as teens and families when appropriate. Traditional talk therapy interventions such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is also utilized. I am a member of the NY Mental Health Counselors Association as well as The Association for Play Therapy, and am currently working toward earning the credentials for Registered Play Therapist

Every therapeutic intervention is important. However, at the end of the day the biggest factor in my ability to help you and your family is the relationship and connection that is developed between us.  I am passionate about creating a safe, and nurturing environment for each client while understanding that no 2 clients or their experiences are the same.  I believe that every person, regardless of age, has a story to tell and my goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment for you to share those experiences.
